Tonopah Speedway is off to another great year of action packed family entertainment. With 2 play days and 2 races under our belt we are well on our way to a great season of stock car racing. At our first race on May 9th , Sponsored by Bumbers Towing of Tonopah, we had 5 classes of cars. Mini Stock, Mini Sprints, Bombers, Street Stocks and Pro Stocks. There were a lot of new drivers in all classes and a number of new cars as well. The Flag Man, Gary Davis was easy on the yellow flag to give the new drivers a feel for the track. We had Brother and Sister Dustin and Kathryn Chastain join the ranks, Dustin as a Bomber and Kathryn as a Mini Stock. Nick White who drove last year in a Mini stepped up to the 69 Street stock and Tom Wolfrey moved up to the Pro Street Class.
Our May 23rd, Jim Butler Days sponsored by the Jim Butler Inn and Suites along with Wyman Development Corp., we had an awesome turnout. We had a total of 6 Classes with 40 cars. The Mini Sprint put on an awesome show with 13 cars and only 1 yellow during the main event. Mini Stocks had 9, Bombers with 6, both Streets and Dwarfs with 3 and Pro Stock with 6. We had a little trouble with the Pro Stock heat race as Mother Nature was doing her best to keep the water off turn 3 and 4. But the water truck came out and watered the track. After the Trophy dash the truck came out one more time and the rest of the night was great. The wind stopped and racing was spectacular. We only had one major mishap during the mains that involved Pat Murphy and Cole Shrider. They both had to be pulled away from the back wall. The Pro Stocks came out and put on a heck of a show. Wyatt ended up the victor and took $500 bucks home for first place.
More action to come at our next race on June 13th. Come out and enjoy the action at CNRA’s Tonopah Speedway.
