What an Adrenaline Rush
By Kimberly Campos
You’d think the racers were loaded with Red Bull with all the adrenaline pumping at this weekend’s race. During the first heat race, which featured mini stock racers, a ‘T-Bone’ collision occurred right off the back between Dylan Sanford(#6) and Matt Gillium(#66). This was only a taste of what was to come for the rest of the night.
In the Pro Stock heat, everyone was up and cheering, if not for the excitement of the night, but for truck #83, which was driven by Fred White. The vehicle lost half its sheet metal off the side, but stuck it out like a trooper and made it in 1st.
The Street Stock heat had much irony with all cars, J21(Keith Beal), #69(Nick White), and 007(Terry Sligar), all getting flats. #76(driven by Matt Gillium) had properly aired his tires and was able to stay on the track while all others left to fix their flats. Thus, he got to keep lead. However, it was 007 who drove to 1st.
The Dwarf heat, though small in size, let their presence be known with just as much adrenaline as the larger vehicles portrayed. Cars #23(Justin Kimsey) and #9
(Scott Kelly) fought hard for lead while #33(Troy Seimore) followed close behind. #33 had a spin out caused by a tap by #17(Mark Kelly), but it was #17 who spun into the barriers while #33 continued unscathed. #4(Cecilia) hit the wall after a turn, which triggered the ambulance to come with flashing lights. She was okay, but the vehicle had received a flat tire, resolving with her leaving the track to fix it. #17 reached 1st for this race.
The Bomber heat was just as exciting, but luckily didn’t have as much vehicle damage as the other races contained. Nine Bombers had attended, resulting in the split into two races. The First race had some close collisions, but luckily no hits were followed through. #15(Wild Bill Delahuntey) reached 1st place, while followed closely by #69(Jordan Sheldon), and #14(Michael Ray McLauchlin). The Second group of racers went smooth as well with #13(Rick Schrider) in 1st, #11(Tim Barnes) in second, and #B16(Thomas Beal) in third.
The trophy dashes went pretty quick(as did the drivers race cars), while Dylan Sanford(#6) got 1st in Mini Stock, Pro Stock Tom Wolfrey(#69) and Fred White(#83) fought hard for 1st, but White took it sliding in sideways. Nick White(#69) took 1st for Street Stock, and Mark Kelly(#17) took 1st for Dwarfs.
In our main event, Colton Faught(#06) lead every lap of the race for mini stocks, lapping a few cars, and taking 1st, with Wild Bill((#14) at 2nd and Katherine ‘Kit Kat’ Chastain(#2) taking 3rd. Fred White(#83) took first for Pro Stock with Tom Wolfrey(#69) following. Nick White(#69) lead the entire Street Stock as well, coming in 1st, while Terry Sligar(#007) and Keith Beal(J21) followed for 2nd and 3rd place. Mark Kelly(17x) took 1st for the dwarfs, and Michael Ray McLauchlin(#14) took 1st for the Bombers, with Warren Goins(#3) for 2nd, and Wild Bill(#15) for 3rd.
If you want to see some real excitement around town, check out the CNRA races on Highway 6, every other Saturday at 7:00 PM. The next race event will be July 11, 2009, and will be sponsored by Burger King.
