Rules


2008 Rules

Rules for 2008 are being listed here in part...Track rules will not be list only rules for each car class.... Tonopah Speedway has elected to keep the same rules as years past to make it easier for drivers to keep up with the the high cost of changing rules every year, Same rules, same cars will keep your cost down and not have to modifiy your ride. Safety rules my differ slightly as we have our own safety program at Tonopah Speedway..... Please see class rules listed below:

Pro Stock Rules

1. Stock Front Clips
2. No Aluminum Heads or Blocks
3. After Market Heads/Blocks OK
4. No Alcohol, Methanol, Etc.
5. Race Fuel OK
6. Quick Change & Floaters OK
7. Engine Setback OK... #1 plug must line up with BallJoint 2" Tolerance
8. 2800 LB. Minimum Weight with Driver
9. No Open Wheel Cars
10. Any Appearing Body, Aluminum, Steel or Fiberglass
11. 105" Minimum Wheelbase +or- 1"
12. Any Transmission, Clutch torque converters optional
13. One Four Barrel Carb. No Nitrous
14. Electric Fuel Pumps OK... but must have rollover shutoff

Street Stock Rules

1. RollCage: No offset cages four post roll cage must be used, front and rear hoop welded to the OEM frame. Must be .095 inch tubing, at least 1.666 inch diameter for cages and doorbars. Three horizontal door bars on left side door mandatory. Minimun of two for door bars on passenger side. May have bars for protection in front of radiator, behind bumper, within confines of body. no wider than stock frame horns. May tie front horns together. All bars, front and rear, must be inside body. Must have minimum of one cross bar in top of halo of roll cage.
2. Safety: Helments are required, sfi approved Full Fire Suits of a flame retardant nature are required. Fire retardant gloves are required. Fire retardant racing shoes are highly recommended. All vehicles must have a fully charged fire extinguisher mounted within easy reach of driver. A full size drivers window net is required ( minimum 16" x 20"). No string type nets allowed. Window net must be of good quality per Techs discretion. Window net must be mounted so the latch is at the top/ of window. Aluminum racing seats are required. No factory seats allowed. Top quality 5 point safety belts required no older than 4 years old. Must show dates on belts. Belts to include sub belt, shoulder harness and lap belts. Roll bar padding is required in drivers comparment. Battery master ON/OFF switch required. Switch must be easily accessible by safety crew. On and Off must be clearly marked. Must have two safety chain loops from floor under driveline, Steel drive shafts and yokes only. Drive shafts must be painted white. The drivers seat may be no further set back than rear edge of the quarter post.
3. Electronics: Aftermarket gauges and tach ok, Stock ignition only. No aftermarket distributors, spark boxes, coils etc.....
4. Engines: Front engine cars only. Engine must be same as manufacturer,GM toGM Ford to Ford ect.... Small block V-8's only. No big blocks. No strokers. 362 cubic inch Max. rule in effect. Compression rule in effect 10.5 to 1, 170 lbs Max compression. No Alumimum blocks or heads. Stock cylinder heads only. No aftermarket heads allowed. No bowtie heads and no angle plug heads (GM) allowed. Flat top pistons only. No domed pistons allowed. Hydraulic cams only. 500 max lift for camshafts. No flat tappets or roller cams allowed. No roller rockers or roller tip rockers allowed. Stock hydraulic lifters or stock replacement hydraulic lifters only. No Solid Lifters, No anti-pumps or Rhoads lifters allowed. Aluminum intake manifolds ok rise no higher than top of high valve cover. no racing carbs, No machining, porting, or modifying of carburetors allowed. No carb spacers allowed. Manual stock fuel pumps ONLY. Absolutely no changes to fuel pumps allowed. Starter must bolt up in stock location. Only OEM type transmissions allowed. Trans must have forward gear and reverse plus a neutral position. Stock clutches and flywheels only. No lightening of flywheels allowed. Automatics must use stock torques converters only. No lock up devices or couplers allowed on any transmission.
5. Exhaust: No 180 degree headers. Exhaust header pipes must extend to and connect with one connector at least four inches long. Must remain dual exhaust, no crossover or "y" pipes allowed. No exhaust through body panels or fenders. No over the top headers.
6. Fuel: Racing fuel cell required, no boat or stock automotive fuel tanks allowed. Fuel cell must be securly fastened inside trunk of car,and be mounted by at least two 1/8 inch solid steel straps, two wide around cell. Firewall must be between driver and fuel cell. All cell mounts must be steel, attached to frame / cage. No adjustable fuel cell mounts allowed. No fuel lines through drivers compartment.. No cool cans allowed. Pump fuel only up to 100 octane max. No alcohol, No nitrous, No performance inhansing aditives.
7. Battery: Must be in a marine type case securly mounted in a medal frame behind the seat or in the trunk area.
8. Ballast: Loose objects and / or weights must not be used in drivers compartment or outside of body or in hood area. No weights can be higher than drivers shoulders. Weights must be securly mounted to frame or roll cage, must be painted white and have the car number on it and be attached at least 2 1/2 inch bolts.
9. Tires and Wheels: Tread Foot print 11 inch max. street tires ok. Groving tires allowed.No tire conditioning or tire softening allowed. All wheels must be 8 inch steel wheels only. Offset wheels ok. Bead locks may be used on the right rear only.
10. Frame: Minimum wheelbase is 102" both sides. All cars must retain stock wheelbase and stock rear end with +/- 1". Stock frame must match body for all cars make to make. Number one spark plug must line up or be in front of ball joint . Metric frames and Ford frames must have the back of the fuel pump in front of the cross member, and cross member may not be altered in any way. Frames may be "x" braced.
11. Suspension and Steering: No weight jacking devices allowed. No adjustable spacers allowed or adjustable shackles. Rear suspension must match frame, stock components only. . 2" max. lowering blocks allowed.Stock type shackles required. Front suspension and steering must be unaltered approved OEM in stock location, and must be replaceable by stock parts. Stock passenger car spindles only, Bottom A-Frame cannot be altered or moved. Lower A-Frame and spindles must match frame. Upper A-Arm may be OEM or NON adjustable tubular with OEM ball join t only. Steering quickner allowed.
12. Rear End: Any approved OEM passenger car or truck tyoe rear end permitted. Full steel spool, steel mini spool or welded rear ends only. Steel axels only. Floaters are optional. No quick change devices allowed. No electronic or machanical traction control devices allowed.
13. Shocks: One per wheel. No racing shocks permitted. No air shocks permitted. All shocks must mount in stock position.
14. Brakes: Must be approved OEM three wheel operative drum or disc combination. Vented rotors only.No floating brakes. No brake shut off or pressure sensitive devices allowed. no racing master cylinders or aftermarket pedal assemblies allowed.
15. Bodies: Any U>S> manufactured full body rear wheel drive passenger cars, full frame or unibody. Stock steel bodies OK. Aftermarket stock appearing aluminum bodies OK. Fiberglass hoods OK. Stock appearing aftermarket plastic nose and tail pieces OK. Steel rub rails no bigger than one by two may be attached to body from fender well to fender well and rear quarter panel, flush with body. All windows in body will remain open. Windsheild must have 3 bars and steel mesh in front of driver. No cutting of firewall except for roll cage clearance. All holes in front and rear firewalls are to be covered with medal. Dash is not to extend more than 24" back from center of lower windsheild opening. Dash must be flat except for cowl in front of driver. No other interior tinning is allowed. All glass removed. No mirrors allowed.
16. Chassis: Car frames must be completly stock, and in stock location, Weight rule is in effect. All cars must weigh 3,300 lbs. after race with driver, no exceptions. Hoods may be gutted, but nor shortened. Back of hood must be sealed off from driver compartment, using metal not plastic materials. Absolutely no cutting out firewalls. All bumpers must be approved OEM with no sharp edges. All bumper mounts must be steel. No intentional reinforcement of front bumpers allowed. Bumpers not covered must have rounded ends that are connected to body or frame. Front bumper may have one round bar maximum 1" diameter, to support the nose piece. Front of front bumper must be mounted a minimum of six inches from front of frame horns.
17. Inspections: All cars are subject to inspection any time they are at the race track. Any refusal will result in disqualification of that event. Any problem with safety items must be fixed before the car races that event. Other problems will be given a one race probation depending on circumstances. Anything not stated in the above rules are uo to the techs discretion. Any decisions made by tech are final. All cars that dominate and or walk away may be subject to weight being added at any time per techs discretion.

Mini Stock Rules

1. Mini Stock Division will be open to all 4 cylinder cars and trucks, american or foreign.
2. Engine and body must be from the same Manufactureres. Example Ford to Ford, GM to GM. Engines must remain Stock. No engine modifications allowed. No limited production performance models allowed. No racing parts allowed. No engine modifications to enhance performance allowed. No power chips allowed. Diagnostic plugs can not be removed. Front engine cars and trucks only. No turbos, No rotary engines, No headers, No head milling allowed. Compression must be stock for that make and model. No exceptions. Street Holley and Weber Carbs ok, No racing carbs. Stock cams only. Pump gas only, 100 Octane Max. Any Mini Stock that dominates or walks away may be subject to adding weight at anytime per techs discretion.
3. Tires: Street tires only. No racing tires aftermarket steel wheel ok must be same offset on all 4 wheels. No aluminum wheels, even if aluminum wheels came stock with car. D.O.T. street tires only. No 50 series tires. 8 inch wheel Max.
4. Roll Cage: 4 post roll cage minimum. 1.5 inch tubing minimum Must have 3 horizontal driver side door bars and a minimum of 2 horizontal door bars on passenger side. .095 tubing minimum.
5. Interior: All glass, carpet and plactics must be removed from inside and outside of car. Batteries, if inside drivers compartment must be behind drivers seat in a sealed marine type box, Securely mounted to the floor.
6. Seats: May use stock seat. Seat frame must be welded to the floor. Must have minimum of a 4 point harness. No stock seat belts. Belts may be 4 yrs old max, or newer.
7. Suspension: No suspension modifications allowed. No racing springs. No racing shocks. No lowering blocks, etc... All shocks must be mounted in stock location. Can heat springs for set up.
8. Bodies: Must use stock bodies. No after market racing bodies or body modifications. No spoilers or hood scoops. No stripping of floor pan or firewalls allowed. May gut fenders, hood, roof, etc.. No sun roofs. No open roofs period...
8a. Car will weight 1lb. for each cc of displacement Minimum.
9. Brakes: Cars must have minimum 4 working brakes at all times.
10. Bumpers: Cars must use stock bumpers and must have two safety chains from frame to bumper, front and rear. No tubular bumpers allowed. No bars to extend beyond bumpers.
11. Steering: Quick steer is optional.
12. Safety: Drivers must wear helemt and heavy cotton clothing or firesuit at all times.See track rules racing shoes and neck braces recommended. Driver side window net mandatory. 4 years old or newer. Front screen required in front of driver. See track rules reguarding fire extinguishers.Can use stock gas tank as long as safely mounted in car.
13. Numbers: All cars numbers must be legible and easily seen from scoring tower. Numbers are required on both side doors and roof. This is suppose to be a low budget ckass, but please try to make cars presentable to spectators. Maximum 3 digit numbers max only.

Bomber Rules

1. Must be full size car 8 cylinder rear wheel drive cars only. Rear wheel drive cars with 108 minimum wheelbase. No midsize sports cars (i.e.camero,mustangs,firebirds) No part of the car can be skinned except. full cage may skin drivers compartment. and may be skinned if de-hinged and pinned. No front loops allowed. No radiator protection allowed.
2. All glass, moldings or trim of any kind that can come loose onto tract must be removed.
3. Must have screen covering windshield in front of driver. Window net required. At least 2 steel vertical bars to withstand 150 lbs.
4. Engine 355 CID and above will run 2 barrel carb, 4 barrel carbs will have secondary's wired shut.
5. Must have good operating 4 point harness belts.
6. Single Loop over Driver with 2 down bars for support minimum. Roll cage must extend from drivers side to passenger side. 2-3 1 1/2 inch tubing welded to the outside of the drivers door minimum. You may install a full cage in drivers compartment including a halo and 3 door bars on drivers side and 2 door bars on passenger side. 1 1/2 inch x .095 tubing minimum, 4 point cage optional.
7. Interior may be gutted. Carpet and head liner and anything else flammable, must be removed. No skinning. No Mirrors.
8. Bodies must remain stock appering. Can cut out wheel wells only,1 inch max. Nothing else. No adding of weight of any kind. i.e... no ballasts
9. Must have stock front and rear bumpers with safety chains attached from bumpers to frame.
10. Doors must be welded,bolted or chained
11. No suspension modifications allowed. Four working brakes at all times. Open rear ends only. No locked or welded rear ends. Drive lines must have 2 loops.
12. Stock wheels and tires only. No aluminum wheels allowed even if they are stock and came with the vehicle. P series only. No 50 series or deep lug tread or mud tires allowed
13. Numbers must be legible from scoring tower. 3 digit max.
14. Firesuit is recommended and helmet is required. Gloves, shoes, and neck brace are recommended. If you are not using a firesuit then heavy cotton clothing is required. i.e.. long sleeve cotton shirt and leather shoes.
15. This is a fun class. The intention of this class is for people to be able to get into racing for very little money and just to have fun.
16. All cars are subject to inspection at all times while at the race track. All decisions made by track officals are final. All cars that dominate and walk away are subject to weight at anytime per techs discretion.

Dwarf Rules

Dwarf rules are covered by a standard set of Rules (SNDCRA) will be the governing rules that Tonopah Speedway will be following

Nevada State Championship Demolition Derby Rules

Safety

1. Anyone entering pit area must display pit pass

2. No animals allowed in pit area

3.Keep your pit area clean,rempve your trash.

4. Alcohol,Drugs,Firearms,Verbal or Physical abuse will not be tolerated.

EVENT

1. All injuries must be reported to track officals no matterhow minor.

2.Regulation racing crash helmits must be worn during the entire event.

3.Long sleeve shirts mandatory, no shorts.

4.Seat Belts must remain buckled during the event.

5.Drivers are to stay in their car during the entire event, except when directed by officials

6.Drivers meeting will be attended by all holding pit pass(MANDATORY).

7.DRIVERS MAY BE DISQUALIFIED FOR:

a. Sandbagging,(staying in the background and doing little hitting)

b Being hoohed to another car to long or not making contact with another car on own power.

c.Drivers door contact or hitting a car of driver that has waved off.

d. Teaming.

e. Car condition(Anything that endangers participants).

f Driver or Pit Crew Behavior.

VEHICLE RULES

1. No Imperials,Pickup Trucks,Vans,Convertibles,Four Wheel Drives,foreign type cars,No T tops or Commercial vehicles.

2. Remove interior,all body trim,body clips,glass,plastic grills and composite body parts.

3 Material sizes,unless specified in rules are as follows:Chains 1/2" ,Bolts 3/4", Welding Filler 1/2" rebar or 1/4"X2"flat stock,and washers 3". All are maximun sizes.

4 Car numbers must be min. 24" on both sides and Top (NUMBERS ONLY).

5. Gas tanks must be removed from stock location .New tank (6 gallon max.) installedforward of rear axle behind drivers seat.Chains ,cable or steel brackets must secure gas tank.Tanks must be made of steel or similar quality.No plastic tanks or plastic containers.Tank must be installed within saftey bars.See attachment.

6Holes must be made in floorboard around gas tank for possible spillage.

7. Battery must be relocated to front passenger floorboard.Bayyeries must be covered and securely attached with bolts or chains.No plumers tape.

8. MANDATORY BRACING:Side bars from dash to 1" forward of rear wheel well.Cross bars,at dash,behind driver and at rear whel well.Side bars and cross bars must be connecte by welding or bolting.Side bars 4"x3/8 stock min. and cross bars miimun 2"pipe, or square tubing.Scheule #40 minimun.See Attached drawing.Driver door may have bracing to floorboard, not frame,passenger side may have a total of 8" of bracing to floorboard.SEE ATTACHED

9.Mandatory: Windshield braces(2) from top of opening to bottom of opening to prevent hood from entering car.Rear Window optional,sedans only.

10. Bumper heights,front and rear,will not be higherthan 20" measured from the ground to the bottom of the bumper.Cars may be raised to this height but will be checked at inspection and upon entering the arena. Used cars excluded fromthis rule.

11. bumpers my be welding to bumper brackets.Bumper brackets may be welded to frames.Bumpers seams may be welded,no fillers 5-MPH bumpers my be used on all cars.Homemade brackets not to exceed 12"X4"X1/2".NO welding body to bumper.

12. Transmissions must have overflow drain instaedon dip stick tube,away from exhaust.

13. Engnes may be chained,bolted or welded to frame.No engie forward of engine block. 4" max mounts.Anything over will be added to overall repairs.

14.Engine must remai in stock position.You may cut maximum of a 12"x12"hole in firewall to relieve distributor foll back.Cover holes.

15. Radiators, if used must be in stock location.

16.All cars must have an engine air cleaner.

17.Doors must be welded and/or chained shut;refer to Rile #3for sizes

18.Ading flat metal to to of doors okay ,Refer to Rule #3 for sizes.

19. Trunk lids must be chained,welded or bolted.

20. Wagon deck lids and tailgates must be chained,welded or bolted.Do not mix methods. Refer to Rule #3 for sizesNo deck lids welded forward of rear wheel wells.

21 Hod must be chaned or bolted on all four corners. Gusset plates,6" maximum.Washers on hood 6" max.Hole must be cut hood over carburetor for fir suppression.

22. Seat Belts are Mandatory.Front seat may be welded or bolted down.Bucket Seat allowed.

23. Body bolts may be changed.Maximum size 3/4"bolt with 3" washer.Body Bolts must remain in stock location.

24.Spring clamps may be usd. Four perspring 2"wide only.


27.No welding frame holes.

28. Electric fuel pumps if used(EFI),requires kill switch,to be installed above steering column in windshield area.Must be painted brightly for easy identification.

29. Tires must be automotive type DOT only,max 15 wheel P series type only,no aggressive tread on drive axles,AIR FILLED TIRES ONLY.

30.Must be able to inspest engine compartment and trunk compartment with a inspection hole of a minimum of a 14" opening.

OPIONAL VEHICLE SPECIFICATIONS

1. Mufflers may be removed.

2 Locked rear ends .

3 Fenders may be cut away from wheels.

4. Transmission cooler if used must be covered.

5. Bumper may be trimmed.

6. Welded down A-arms are allowed.No reinforcement of A-arms.

7. One A/C condenser allowed.

8. Frame seams may be welded,no filler rod,no adding washers.no filling frame holes.All frame brackets may be welded ir altered entire bracket will be added to overall repair measurement.Body seams may be welded.IT IS ILLEGAL TO WELD ,PAINT,UNDERCOAT,MUD SAND GRIND ECT. ANY PORTION OF CARS FRAME UNLESS SPECIFIED IN RULES.USED CARS MUST HAVE FRAME WASHED OF DEBRIS (DIRT) FROM PIOR DERBIES.ANY CAR FOUND NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES WILL BE UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE AND ENTRY MAY NOT BE REFUNDED.

9. Chain may be wrapped from rear end to frame.One each side.No welding.

10. 2" front kicker-bars may be installed on both sides from dash bars to top of frame.Bars must be installed rear of A-frame mounts.2" rear kickers may also be installed from rear cross bar to framr,forward of rear axle.All kickers mustbe installed on top of frame only 4" contact to frame max.(DO NOT INSTALL INSIDE FRAME).

11. Front fenders may be welded to frame forward of A-frame,welded area will be Added to total repair.

12. 12" frame repair allowed per frame rail new and used cars,INSPECTION REPAIRS COUNT AS TOTAL.

ALL FRAME REPAIRS WILL BE COUNTED IF YOU BELIEVE ONE OF THE WINNING CARS IS ILLEGAL,YOU MUST PUT THE COMPLAINT IN WRITING AND BACK IT UP WITH $100.00. IF WE FIND THE COMPLAINT NOT TO BE VALID THE MONEY WILL NOT BE REFUNDED. PROTESTS RESTRICTED TO DRIVERS ONLY.

14-17-$5.00    under 6- Free   Pit Pass - $20.00
Prices good for all Tonopah Speedway promoted events. 
Prices may vary for special events.
 
   Pit gates open at 4:00 pm - Spectator gates open at 5:oopm - Racing starts at 7:30 pm
